We often travel to destinations for their food and we are often asked by our guests at Chalet Cannelle for recommendations on places to eat.

Our Where to Eat series includes our top picks of road side stalls to Michelin star spots of luxury and everything in between.

Where is Porto?

Porto is the 2nd largest city of Portugal, nestled on the Atlantic coastline north of Lisbon. With its centre being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the pretty Douro River running through it, Porto is a super attractive city to explore and small enough to get every where by foot. It also happens to be the home of Port!

Porto Restaurants

D.O.P – An elegant and stylish dining room with pristine service, completed with modern Portuguese dishes. Inventive food without being over the top and not style over substance here. We had dinner and loved it although the lunch menu looks very good value .

Mundo – Cocktail bar with great dishes and snacks suitable to share. It feels like you are sitting in a modern art gallery, a good place to spend an evening.

Restaurante São Valentim – The locals go to a city suburb, Matosinhos when they want to eat fish, so we did too. It is quite easy to get to by the metro, or take the scenic tram to Foz then walk or do what we did and walked all the way from the centre along the river and then the coastline. It’s a long but great walk and you will be ready for your fish supper. We had been told by quite a few people that this was the one to eat at – on arrival we weren’t so sure but it was fantastic. Be sure to take what the waiter offers you as the best that day. Simply cooked, incredibly fresh fish, worth the journey for.

And don’t forget the Pasteis de Natas / Portuguese Tarts!
